Finding everything they need and more in Milton, Delaware.

Featured Boomers Linda and Andy Miller

The Millers moved to Milton, Delaware, from Wayne, NJ, in January of 2019. The day we met for this interview was exactly one year from the day they first met with Elliot Welan at Active Adults Realty to see what this area had to offer. As with many of our clients, they had already decided they were leaving Northern NJ, as tough as that decision was. They had everything there but realized that it was time for a change. Now they agree that everything they need is at their disposal in Milton and nearby Lewes.

Here it is again, the small world story! Linda & Andy raised their family in Wayne, NJ. I shared with them that I went to DePaul High School, in Wayne! The more we talked, the more people and places we had in common.

Their home in Wayne originally belonged to Andy’s parents. When it became their home, they added onto the rancher and built it into a large family home with a separate space for the family business. The business they started in 1989, ProStitch Embroidery, allowed Linda to work from home while raising their 2 boys.

Andy taught Middle School Science for 35 years but worked in the family business on the side. They continued to grow the business and even opened two retail locations. Andy also coached hockey and traveled with his teams, including the team on which his son Brian played hockey. Brian went on to play At Boston University and became a Professional Hockey player. That eventually took him to Alaska to play for the Aces. While there, Brian met his wife, and remained in Anchorage where they are raising their 2 girls. Their other son and his wife live in Chester, NJ, with 2 more grandchildren, a girl and a boy.

When they first met with Elliot in August of 2018, they were just starting to think about where they might want to move a few years down the road. They raved about Elliot, who listened, spent several days showing them the area and different communities. In the end, they fell in love with Heritage Creek in Milton and decided to make it happen.

When I asked where else they had considered, they admitted they didn’t bother to look anywhere else. “It all just kind of lined up and it felt right for us”, said Andy. “It’s close to the beaches, not too far to travel to our family in NJ, and financially, Delaware wins hands down.”

They wrote a contract on a to-be-built new home, went back to NJ, listed their home in mid-September and got an offer just before Christmas! It sold so quickly in fact, that they had to rent an apartment here for 6 months while their new home was being built. But they moved into the home in July 2019 and are already feeling part of the wonderful community of Heritage Creek. It had everything they were looking for, including town water and sewer, Natural Gas, a home with a full basement and easy access to town and the beaches, and some of the nicest neighbors imaginable.

Just last week, they were thrilled when not only their son from NJ came with his family for a week’s vacation, but Brian and his family surprised them by showing up as well! They came all the way from Alaska! There was plenty of room for all

Linda & Andy moved their business with them and plan to keep working and growing ProStitch Embroidery. They’ll continue to work with their established clients that include sports teams, schools, and businesses back in NJ while building new clientele here in Delaware.

They do plan to make time to travel, do some fishing, go to the beach and Andy wants to do more photography. That work/life balance can be a challenge, but they have been working together for most of their almost 40-year marriage, and they are excited about their life and their business here in Milton, Delaware.
