Theatre-adjust-web“Clear space” refers to a focus on the process, knowledge, and humanity of arts performance: the idea that we find ourselves in what appears on the stage.

For those of you who do not know Clear Space, the Theatre Company’s mission is to inspire audiences, artists, and students through high-quality performances and educational experiences. A 501(c)3 cultural organization, founded in 2004, CSTC is comprised of  a remarkable team of full-time, part-time, and volunteer administrators, artists, and educators.

As a new member of Clear Space Theatre’s Producers’ Circle, Bill and I are excited to collaborate with other community leaders in the development of a long range plan that would ensure a sustainable, year-round theater company based in Rehoboth Beach. We were energized by the conversation and exchange of ideas that includes educational and outreach programs,” said Kathy Sperl-Bell, “we look forward to helping CSTC be a leader in the vibrant performing arts community of Southern Delaware.”

The Three Facets of Clear Space are:

  • The Acting Company
  • The Arts Institute
  • On Tour

The Acting Company provides approximately 150 professional theatre performances each year. The talented casts performed for more than 15,000 theatre-goers in 2015 at the Company’s home at Baltimore Avenue or through ongoing partnerships at Milton Theatre, the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover and the Freeman Stage in Fenwick Island. • TWO Spring Musicals, plus a smaller musical in the Fall
  • TWO Plays – Spring and Fall, plus a one-person play in June
  • A reader’s theatre presentation each March in cooperation with a local community non-profit
  • A season musical for the holiday season

Upcoming Shows at Clear Space Theatre

In March, regarded by many theater professionals as the greatest musical ever created, GYPSY is the ultimate tale of an ambitious stage mother fighting for her daughters’ success, while secretly yearning for her own. Set all across America in the 1920’s, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born, the show explores the world of two-bit show business with artful humor, heart, and sophistication. The celebrated score, by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, boasts one glorious hit after another, including: “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “You’ll Never Get Away from Me,” “If Momma Was Married,” “All I Need Is the Girl,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “You Gotta Get A Gimmick,” “Small World” and “Together Wherever We Go.”

Gypsy art web 2“This is a wonderful show, complete with great music and deeply engaging characters. We produce at least one classic musical each season; we’re delighted that 2017’s is GYPSY. One challenge with such shows is to stage a well-known piece in a way that makes it fresh and exciting. We think we’ve succeeded with GYPSY, and can’t wait to see if the audience agrees!” says Director David Button.

GYPSY runs weekends from Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 26, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7pm and Sunday performances at 3pm. There is one Thursday performance on March 16, at 11am. Tickets for all shows are $15 – $32, and may be purchased on-line at www.clearspacetheatre.org, or by calling the box office at 302-227-2270.
