Our independent brokerage was recently featured in Milestones, a Special Publication of the Cape Gazette.
As a featured business in this special section, the article titled, ACTIVE ADULTS DELAWARE » Since 2006, talks about our boutique brokerage’s unique approach to selling real estate. We are very happy to post the following article and links to the Cape Gazette’s Spring 2016 Milestones publication.
The first thing you’ll notice when you step into Active Adults Realty on Savannah Road in Lewes are the brochures spotlighting the wide array of recreational and cultural attractions in the First State. If you’ve spent time at the website and blog at www.activeadultsdelaware.com, you won’t be surprised, because preparing people to truly enjoy an over-50 lifestyle is every bit as important to the Active Adults team as finding the homes where they’ll live.
“When my husband Bill and I moved down here, I didn’t know much about the area,” co-owner Kathy Sperl-Bell recalls. “We recognized that even though many people move here for low taxes and all the great things they’ve heard about Delaware, they’re also dealing with major decisions about where they want to live for the rest of their lives. So one of the first questions we ask potential clients is ‘tell me about yourself – what’s important to you?’”
From there, the Active Adults team focuses on what they’ve learned through their own homework. Agents know which communities will appeal to a couple who’s accustomed to swimming two miles every morning, for example, or which are best for hosting hordes of visiting grandchildren. And although the website offers a rich array of information on hundreds of communities and enables clients to search for homes across the region, Active Adults’ services are highly tailored to each client.
“We won’t put you in the car and show you communities that won’t meet your budget or tastes,” Sperl-Bell says. “And if you find a home in a community that you like, we can act as your buyer agent and put your interests first.”
“Not all of our clients are retirees – many are still working,” Sperl-Bell adds, which is why she created Delaware-specific FAQ documents on topics that are especially relevant to those over 50, such as health insurance and tax regulations on income, automobiles and social security. Active Adults has also published a series of Relocation Guides available for free at its site, offering information about lifestyle topics ranging from continuing education to farmers markets to the many historic towns throughout the state. While encouraging people to learn everything they can about Delaware at the Web site and blog, and to work with her agents to find communities best suited to their needs, Sperl-Bell emphasizes, “it’s not the community that makes you active; it’s the people who make the community active. This is a great time in your life, and we want to help you make the most of it. -Written by Chris Beakey for the Cape Gazette.
