This recent article by Scott Goss and Jon Offredo in The News Journal lets us in on the growth of this Delaware town.

“Sandwiched between Dover and Middletown, Smyrna long struggled to attract economic development that would give the town a distinctive character. Now a mix of locally owned watering holes and restaurants are transforming Delaware’s fifth-largest municipality into a sweet spot for anyone who loves adult beverages, good food and live music.”
“New eateries, shows at the Smyrna Opera House and a homegrown music festival also are helping to re-make the bedroom community into a downstate nightlife destination.”
Painted Stave Distilling at http://paintedstave.com/ was the first to arrive in 2013, followed by Blue Earl Brewery at http://blueearlbrewing.com/ earlier this year. Chef/owner Kevin Reading of Abbott’s Grill has partnered with Eric Williams, co-founder of Mispillion River Brewery will open Brickworks Brewpub in Smyrna in Spring 2016. Once it’s open, Smyrna will be the only town with three kinds of alcoholic beverage makers allowed under state law. All that’s missing now is a winery. “But Harvest Ridge Winery in Marydel at http://www.harvestridgewinery.com already comes to a lot of our events,” says Smyrna Town Manager David Hugg to the News Journal.
